Season Finale

Congratulations to Fred Kelley for winning FTD at the final CDC auto-x championship points event of the year on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick, MD. Fred blasted through the cold, damp conditions to earn a fastest time of 43.99 seconds in his well-sorted Factory Five Roadster and he was followed by Wade Chamberlain with a 44.64s best run in his Cobra. Fred was also the fastest driver at Sunday’s Test and Tune event with an unofficial best time of 38.39s on a shorter, modified version of the previous day’s course. Many participants were pleasantly surprised at the $15 entry fee on Sunday thanks to generous sponsor support from Andrewtech Automotive and TurboXS.

A hearty congratulations also goes out to Mike Moran for winning the Capital Driving Club Autocross Series 2007 Championship with a total of 1873 points. Mike was in a close points battle all season with Dan Rockholt who finished in second place with 1856 points. Mike attended every single event this year and displayed impressive driving talent behind the wheel of the mighty, modified Subaru Impreza he co-drives with his brother Jake, who finished third with 1820 points. Mike earned FTD at the May 12 and September 1 events and was a consistent top finisher at every other event. Other notable mentions include Brian Karwan who earned FTD five times this season, Wade Chamberlain did it three times (incredibly sharing top honors with Bouchon on July 7th) and Fred Kelley earned FTD twice this year. The November 10th event results and the final 2007 Championship points standings can be seen by clicking on the Results page.

It was a great year of auto-x with the club. We hosted 14 auto-x and 8 Test & Tune events in 2007 providing a total of 22 days of racing action, more than any other local club. We ran at 3 different venues, each posing unique challenges and rewards. There were some minor bumps along the way but we’re working hard to make the 2008 season an even bigger success. In the works are two track day events at Summit Point Raceway, a road rally or two, a car show, lots more autocrossing, and some social events. Keep up to date with all the club happenings via our website. We will make big announcements here in the News section and we will continue to have engaging discussions on our chat forum where people can get involved and help us plan these events or get connected with other members to do some good old fashioned bench racing.

The club would like to thank all of our members, the many participants who raced with us this season, the organizers who worked so hard to put these events together, our generous sponsors Ptuning, Andrewtech, TurboXS, and Frederick Motorsports, and all those who just came out to watch and have a good time. We’re all about having fun and promoting our passion for driving and we couldn’t have done it without your support.
